Arizona kids are back to school and unfortunately this also means back to germs. Although AllKids Pediatric Urgent Care locations have seen a decrease in summer infections, like hand foot and mouth disease, they have seen an increase in illnesses like strep throat now that children have been back in school for a few weeks. Pediatrician Dr. Sheena Banerjee of AllKids Urgent Care talked with Kylee Cruz from AZ Family Channel 3, to discuss prevention tips to keep your kids healthy from school germs.
The number one tip for germ-prevention is hand washing. A great tip to get your children to wash their hands with soap for the proper amount of time is to have them sing “Happy Birthday to You” at least twice. This is the most important habit you can teach your children to help decrease the spread of germs amongst their school peers. Along with great hand washing habits comes making sure kids keep their hands away from their face, especially their eyes, nose, and mouth.
Also, make sure your children receive a flu vaccine when they become available. You can find out about getting your flu shot at AllKids Urgent Care here. This year the CDC has recommended that all children receive the inter-muscular version for their flu shot and not the nasal spray this year.
